Excerpts from our Central Executive Board's statement:
The Yazidi people, who have suffered 73 genocides throughout history, now face yet another dire threat orchestrated byThe Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK). Fueled by statements from former Peshmerga Kasim Shesho, radical elements have once again made the Yazidis their target. The threat initiated by the Barzani administration is paving the way for systematic ethnic and religious cleansing.
Meanwhile, the increasing threats of operations against Shengal are opening the door to a new genocide. The PDK, which abandoned the Yazidi people to their fate and obstructed their defense during the ISIS massacres, will bear primary responsibility for any new atrocities.
We warn the PDK and the Kurdistan Regional Government: Stop this dangerous game immediately. The Kurdish people will continue to defend the Yazidis' right to live in peace and security on their own land, just as they have in the past.
We call on the international community: Those who turned a blind eye to the genocide of the Yazidi people by ISIS will be complicit if they allow a new massacre to occur.
As the DEM Party, we will continue to defend the Yazidi people's right to live freely on their land and their right to self-governance. Let us not remain silent in the face of this oppression.
